A Review Of The Indian Premier League
The Indian Premier League is a Twenty20 cricket league of eight teams, each representing a different city in India. The current teams are Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Former teams in the league include the Deccan Chargers, the Gujarat Lions, the Kochi Tuskers Kerala, the Pune Warriors India, and the Rising Pune Supergiant. A total of thirteen teams have played in the league since it was founded.
The IPL is one of the most popular cricket leagues in the entire world. At the time of writing, the league has had a total of twelve seasons. The league is valued at approximately $6.9 billion. Matches use televised timeouts and there are no time limits for innings.
Teams are able to recruit players in a variety of ways. There is a player auction that is held annually, and there is a window of time where players can be traded from one team to another. Players have the option to sign up in the auction and can even choose the price that bidding will start at.
Because there are eight teams in the league, every team in the league is able to play each other twice each season. Games initially are played round-robin style. The top four teams face off against each other in the playoffs. The winners of the final game are crowned the Indian Premier League champions.
The most successful team in the league is Mumbai Indians. They have managed to win the competition four times. They first won the tournament in 2013 and also won in 2015, 2017, and 2019. Sachin Tendulkar was named the player of the series in 2019.
The Chennai Super Kings have won the tournament three times. They were the tournament winners in 2010, 2011, and 2018. They have also played in the finals on numerous occasions. However, a player from this team has never been named the player of the series.
The Kolkata Knight Riders have won twice, making them the only other team with multiple titles. They were the victors in 2012 and again in 2014. Sunil Narine was the player of the series in 2012 and in 2018. Andre Russell was given that honor in 2015 and 2019.
The other teams that have won the tournament are the Rajasthan Royals, the Deccan Chargers, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shane Watson of the Rajasthan Royals, Adam Gilchrist of the Deccan Chargers, Chris Gayle of the Royal Challenges Bangalore, Glenn Maxwell of the Kings XL Punjab, Virat Kohli of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Ben Stokes of Rising Pune Supergiant have all been named players of the series.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab, and Rising Pune Supergiant have all played in the finals, but have yet to win a tournament. Because the tournament is held annually, every IPL member still has a chance to win the next tournament and claim the championship title for the city they represent.
